Abstract
Berea College's Extension Services provided short-term, informal educational programming and services, primarily in adult education, both on and off campus, to persons living in communities around Berea (including the mountain regions as far away as West Virginia). Programming included Opportunity Schools (held both on campus and in other communities), lectures, and the publication of pamphlets, bulletins and leaflets on a variety of topics.

Abstract
A Summer Puppetry Caravan for Appalachia was created by director Neil di Teresa, professor of art at Berea College, in 1969. Initially funded by Berea College and the Rockefeller Foundation, the Caravan received additional support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kentucky Arts Commission, the Kentucky Humanities Council, and other private organizations. Abstract
Hutchins, born in 1850 and native of Brooklyn, New York, attended Oberlin College, Yale University, and Oberlin Theological Seminary. In 1896 he graduated from Union Theological Seminary and was ordained a Presbyterian minister, receiving his first pastorate at Bedford Church in Brooklyn. Later that same year,Hutchins married Anna Laura Murch of Cleveland (whom he had met at Oberlin).
